I’ve wondered a lot in my life about how to help myself as well as those around me to connect more deeply with nature.
I believe that one of the best ways to do this is by living in a culture of people who are curious & excited about the natural world.
Unfortunately, it often happens that the people around us don’t always share our personal interest & passion for learning. But there’s good news here because I have a secret to share with you…
Curiosity is contagious! This means that if you can share your curiosity with those around you, they will begin to feel curious and excited about the same things as you!
So how do we do this?
Well, this is really a mentoring question, and it has to do with how we awaken curiosity and excitement about nature in people around us without putting unreasonable expectations on them.
There are some simple methods that can help make this possible but one of the easiest and most natural techniques that will help you share nature while also supporting you to grow on your journey is storytelling.
This is because whenever you share a story of something you saw outside or an experience you had out in nature it has a few really important effects…
- It fixes the memory in your mind
- It helps you to reflect and consider other connections linked to what you observed
- It stimulates conversation related to the natural world
It’s amazing for me to observe how when I take the time to share my observations & experiences with others, they begin to get roped into my curiosity. I notice them paying attention more, using their eyes, ears and even bring back their own stories related to what I share.
I always remember my time outside much better when I take those few moments to review and share with the others in my life.
We connect as people & we learn about nature. Two Birds… One Stone.
Have fun sharing your stories and I’ll talk to you next time!
