This is one of my personal “teaching stories” and it’s a perfect example of how nature based mentoring connects us to a living oral tradition.
On one level, it’s just a fun story about an experience I had one spring while watching the squirrel family in my backyard.
Yet on another level, there are principles, lessons & attitudes woven throughout the tale that support the listener to improve your connection with nature just by listening!
Making The Choice To Follow Natural Mysteries
There are two simple choices everyone is faced with whenever you observe something happening in nature:
Choice #1 – You can say “wow that was pretty cool!” and immediately go back to your normal life.
Choice #2 – You can look closer! Keep looking and see what else you can discover!
Both of these options are always available, but most people default to choice #1 because of time constraints, or generally feeling unsure about how to continue the investigation.
So what is YOUR default choice?
- What is your habitual response when you encounter mysteries outside?
- How long do you allow yourself to watch & listen before you get bored or distracted?
- How far do you follow the mystery before you give up and turn back?
- How much more would you discover if you just take one more step?
Thanks for listening…
